Dow
Furniture's History
 |
After 55 years
in the furniture business, you can imagine how
much history there could be and how generations
of the Dow family have served generations of
customers in the MidCoast and beyond. Here
are the highlights about Dow Furniture - we'd
love to hear your stories too!
|
1955 - Dow
Furniture was originally founded on Rt. 1 in
Waldoboro by Wilmot "Bill" Dow as "The Yankee
Trader" which sold used furniture. The building
had been a chick hatchery before. That's
Dana Dow, Bill's son on top of the truck above!
1960's - "The Yankee Trader" changes its name to
Dow Furniture and the company adds new furniture
and mattresses to the product lines. Eventually,
only new furniture is sold.
1970's - Dana Dow purchases the business in
1977. It operates as a part time business
since everyone was teaching school.
1980's - Dow Furniture becomes a full time
business. The first addition is built in
1988.
1990's - The second addition is added in 1992
and the third in 1997 to support business
growth.
2000's - The warehouse is built. Dow
Furniture becomes the largest bedding and
mattress retailer in the MidCoast featuring
Simmons Beautyrest, Tempur-pedic®
and King Koil. The product lines broadened
to include well known names like La-Z-Boy,
Ashley, ROWE and Four Seasons.
Thank you again for being a Dow Furniture
customer. We greatly appreciate your
business and the opportunity to serve you.
Because of you, we have been able to grow our
business and provide jobs to great Maine people.
We hope you will continue to be a part of our
future, too!

Randy and Gary
 |
What a great story! How could it be? But it is!
Randy searched and searched for a brother, Gary, after Maine
adoption laws changed. They were both adopted into separate
homes when they were very young and never knew each other.
People thought they looked like brothers. One day, Randy
peppered Gary with questions and the answers were shocking! He
had found his brother! In the same delivery truck while
working together at Dow Furniture! Come hear this heartwarming
story for yourself! You'll be enchanted!
